Sports Massage at HP ChampionshipsThe massage therapy approaches I use for athletes in a tournament setting are intended to help them recover faster after a match, and maintain athletic performance through the entire tournament. Jump as high and swing as hard in the finals as in the first match of the tournament!

Sports Massage Team Coordinator Massage Therapy Educator |
Hello. My name is Ben Keyes. I'm a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) who has worked with the Florida Region of USA Volleyball since 2012. I have been asked to provide Sports Massage for the athletes competing at the HP Juniors tournament in Ft. Lauderdale. I have been licensed by the Florida Department of Health since 2002. I maintain professional liability insurance through membership with the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and belong to the Florida State Massage Therapy Association (FSMTA). I run Florida's largest and most elite level sports massage team, and I have personally been working with volleyball players at the professional level (domestic and international) level, the USA National Teams, semi-professional, and amateur levels since 2003. I've been named "Central Florida's Sports Massage Therapist of the Year" twice by the FSMTA. I played men's club volleyball for the University of Nebraska as a setter, and was a student assistant coach for the Nebraska women's team. I have also coached (part-time) as a volunteer for several high school programs, in addition to the high school I graduated from in Nebraska.
In addition to managing my sports massage team for events across Florida, I have an office in Winter Park, Florida just North of Downtown Orlando, Rx Massage Therapy. In my office I primarily work with physician referrals for patients seeking pain relief, help recovering from surgery, and an alternative to surgery. |
How To Use Massage
|
My role at the Juniors HP tournament will be to supply post-match recovery massage for the Team Florida HP athletes. . . and for some of the hard working, coaches and staff. Athletes who are injured during competition will seek help from the tournament's First Aid staff consisting of Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC's). The goal is for everyone to be as fresh on the last day in the finals as they are on the first match. Jumping as high and swinging as hard throughout the whole tournament.
What I Provide:
I don't anticipate needing to do much, cupping, kinesiology taping, or IASTM/Graston but those modalities are included in the services I provide when assessment dictates as necessary. I Don't Provide: All of the below can be found at First Aid.

I would like to address any concerns you may have with your child athlete receiving massage. It is my understanding that not all parents will be traveling with their athlete. In following with the guidelines of the U.S. Center for SafeSport, a form has been provided for you to approve or deny massage therapy services. Also, all massage sessions will have a parent, guardian or a designated USAV FL Region coach or staff member who is the same gender as the athlete present for the duration of every therapy session.
My commitment to you and the athletes:
This has been my policy as an LMT for every patient and athlete who is a minor. This policy aligns with the state and national massage associations standards of practice. |
Thank you to the Florida Region for inviting me to help with the juniors teams as I did with the Team Florida Wave men's and women's teams. I look forward to meeting and working with the athletes to increase and maintain their athletic performance throughout the tournament.
Sincerely,
Ben Keyes, LMT
